The first month of the year is a unique torture. It’s cold. It’s bleak. I don’t want to write or socialize or do anything except splat on the couch and watch TV until past my bedtime (10:30 pm).
And yet, the past month wasn’t so bad. Sure, there was the post-holiday slump. Bouts of seasonal depression. Inauguration Day and all the days after. But that doesn’t mean I can’t still have a nice time, right?
You can’t take months or seasons at face value anymore. January does not have to be depressing!!
My best decisions of the month:
A fun little trip is a January necessity. After neglecting to schedule a fun little trip last year, I’ve reformed my ways. We went to MAGFest in DC and had an actually epic time playing games :’)
Successfully convinced people to leave their homes and come over for dinner and/or craft night (we made zines!!!)

And did not cancel plans! Except for once when I had a migraine!!
I’m not a die-hard New Year’s resolution hooligan, but every January needs a “get everything done” day. This is when you write everything that’s been languishing on your to-do list and just do it. I even did my dry cleaning!! I’m a freak about who handles my belongings (only child syndrome) so this was a big milestone for me.
Instead of doing a New Year’s deep clean, we scheduled our second annual cleaning lady visit. Josh and I will simply never have the perseverance to deep clean for 6 hours, but at least we can be honest with ourselves and outsource
And, crucially, I got capital D Dressed almost every day. The fit really sets the tone…

The first one is always the hardest, but we did it! All in all, an A-tier first month of the year.
XOXO,
Madeleine
This was such a fun creative party! I loved seeing everyone’s personalities and brains laid out in the little zines!
The dinner and zine-making is the cutest idea!! I want to try that! Really enjoyed this :)
